Planning permission was granted for the Chiltern Lifestyle Centre at a meeting of Chiltern District Council’s Full Council on 23 July 2019.
The planning application had been recommended for approval, subject to conditions, by Chiltern District Council’s Planning Committee on 10 June 2019.
The planning decision regarding the Chiltern Lifestyle Centre was previously deferred at a meeting on 14 February 2019 when the Planning Committee requested further work to be done on parking provision, the design of the sports hall, the thermal ratings of the building and the overall impact of the new centre on the local area.
Revisions were made to the building design, materials and appearance made in the planning application.
An increase in parking provision was proposed, from 221 spaces to 263 spaces, and revised arrangements made for minibus and coach parking and servicing vehicles. Matters such as town centre impact, noise conditions and thermal performance of the building were also addressed. The additional consultation period following the previous planning committee meeting had demonstrated the level of public support for the proposal, whilst also recognising the objections received.
The new Chiltern Lifestyle Centre will feature a 160 station fitness suite with four studios, a spa, an eight-lane, 25 metre swimming pool, a diving / teaching pool, a children's splash pad area, soft play, clip and climb, a four badminton court sports hall, squash courts, a climbing wall, library, café area and community centre.
